Top 7 Superzoom
Digital Cameras

There's a new category of digital cameras out there - the superzoom cameras. These cameras are for the intermediate level photographer who needs to have
optical zooms of 10x or greater.

The number of choices available in this category of cameras has grown significantly. Brand names like Pentax, Kodak, Panasonic, Fuji and Olympus have all jumped on the bandwagon.

For your reference, I’ve compiled a list of the top 7 superzoom digital cameras that are selling like very well in the market right now.

Do check them out so you are better informed when making a purchase decision for one of these cameras.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20

If I could take just one camera on vacation, it would be the 5 megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ20. With its amazing 12x optical zoom, impressive lens and other capabilities, it has won numerous awards in the industry.

Fuji FinePix S5100

The FinePix S5100 is another excellent superzoom camera with 10x optical zoom. It's speedy and takes excellent pictures with a minimum of fuss. The only quirk I found is the lack of an image stabilizer. However, if you can overlook this, the S5100 is a great buy.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z3

The Konica Minolta DiMage Z3 has a powerful 12X optical zoom lens, coupled with a image stabilization feature. Although its a good camera, the image quality and performance are slightly below that of the Panasonic and Kodak models in this list.

Kodak EasyShare DX7590

A lovely camera. The Kodak EasyShare DX7590 superzoom features a 5 megapixel resolution and a 10x optical zoom lens: It's easy to use, takes colorful images and is reasonably quick. It lacks image-stabilization features but is still high on my list given its other good points.

Pentax Optio MX4

The Pentax Optio MX4 is a 4 megapixel camera with a 10X zoom lens. While it doesn't look very professional (it has hybrid video/still capabilities) - this uniquely shaped camera is still worth considering for those who want to shoot a lot of video with their camera. Still-image quality is only average though.

Nikon Coolpix 8800

If you want a high end enthusiast camera that also has superzoom features, then the Nikon Coolpix 8800 is the camera to buy. Featuring a whopping 8 megapixel resolution and a 10x optical zoom, the Nikon Coolpix 8800 is easily the most expensive camera on this list.

Kodak EasyShare Z740

The 5 megapixel Kodak EasyShare Z740 has a powerful 10x optical zoom lens and takes reasonably good pictures. Although the joystick controller can be oversensitive at times and it lacks an image stabilizer, the Z740 is still a pretty good buy.

Conclusion

I hope the above list has given you some insight into the different superzoom digital cameras available. I personally own the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 D70 and have been taking tons and tons of pictures with it. Do remember that superzooms can be more expensive than the beginner type of digital cameras. So do some research before you shell out cash to buy the camera. Happy shopping!
