Fujifilm Finepix F60fd Digital Camera Review

Are you looking for a solid digital camera with great optics and image stabilization features?

If so, the Fujifilm Finepix F60fd is something you might want to consider. The camera comes with a 12 megapixel resolution and 3x optical zoom. Best of all, there is built-in image stabilization for those shaky hands.

Let's take a look at this camera now.

1. Design and Construction

The Fujifilm FinePix F60fd comes in a solid silver or black finish. The camera has a great design, incorporating some intuitive and easy-to-use user controls on the back of the camera. I find that it is compact and light enough for quick and impromptu shots of your subjects.

2. Optics and Resolution

The Fujifilm Finepix F60fd is a 12 megapixel camera. That is very impressive indeed, but sometimes I wonder if consumers really need all that power (the average consumer, in my opinion, needs no more than 5 megapixels to produce good prints). There is also a 3x optical zoom and a very nice image stabilization feature which helps you take better shots in dim light. The F60fd also provides a nice ISO control which cranks up all the way to ISO 1600 up and very little noise introduced.

3. User Controls

The Fujifilm Finepix F60fd comes with some great scene modes. You can check out cool modes like fireworks, sports and beach outing. One complaint is that it lacks panoramic stitching capabilities (almost a standard in many cameras these days). The camera also lacks manual focus controls.

4. Battery Life

The Fujifilm Finepix F60fd has pretty decent battery life. It can take about 190 shots on 1 charge. This is in fact lower than the Finepix F50fd which stakes 270 shots with 1 charge. I suspect that extra battery power is required in the F60d for scene recognition features.

5. Storage and Transfer

In terms of storage and transfer, the Fujifilm Finepix F60fd takes in standard SD and SDHC memory cards. It also accomodates xD cards which is pretty rare in cameras these days, I must admit.

6. Shortcomings

Ok, what are the shortcomings of the Finepix F60fd? Well, for one thing, there is the weak flash. I find that a big problem when you're trying to take quick shots in dim light. In addition, some may also complain that the camera's design plain design leaves much to be desired.

Conclusion

On the whole, I find that the Fujifilm Finepix F60fd is a great camera, given its 12 megapixel resolution and image stabilization power. However, if the designers can incorporate a better flash unit and perhaps some manual focus controls like shutter or aperture priority modes, then we will really have a winner on our hands.
