December 31, 2009

Hello everyone and happy holidays! Hope you're having a great time out there. I'm here in sunny Singapore and enjoying those Christmas lights out in Orchard Road over the weekend. For those of you not familiar with Singapore, it's a modern city in the Far East corner of the world and I call it home.

Let's talk a bit about digital photography as a hobby on this edition of the newsletter. There are a few key things every budding digital photographer should know - read on and find out more.

5 Tips For Getting Started In Digital Photography

If you're starting out in digital photography, it helps to know a few basic tips. Follow them and your path into photography success will be much smoother. So here we go:

1. Learn about your camera inside out
One of the most important things about photography is to get to know your digital camera. How often have you found the opportunity to take a great shot which was foiled because your didn't know how this or that function worked in your camera! Don't let that happen! Learn about your camera inside out.

2. Learn your digital photo editing program inside out
The other thing about digital photography is to always learn that digital photo editing program very well. Products like Adobe Photoshop Elements Re great but only of you invest time to learn about then. Gran a copy today and start experimenting.

3. Join a photography club
Oh here's a good tip for all you budding photographers. Join a photography club! Besides learning from others about photography and the latest equipment, you'll also get to meet lots of new friends.

4. Grow into the hobby
One thing I always tell my friends? Don't try to learn everything in one day. You're only human, I say. Take the digital photography hobby one step at a time. Once you're used to shots with a point-and-shoot, you can progress to a digital SLR. But not before. Learn it step by step.

5. Practice, practice, practice
And of course, there's the practice part. To become good at anything, you have to practice. Get out there and take as many pictures as you can! Go wild. Go crazy. Go to exotic spots and locales and snap to your heart's content. Then analyze and find out where you went right and where you went wrong.

And there you have it. My special thoughts on how you can get started in digital photography. If you have any comments on how someone should get started in digital photography, do drop me an email and let me know.

Until next time, here's wishing you a happy holiday season and wonderful 2010!
