Tip of The Week

If you regularly use your zoom to take photos, here are a few tips to follow.

The first concerns depth of field. The greater your focal length (zoom), the shallower your depth of field. This fact can be used to make your portraits more flattering, or to isolate your subject and eliminate distracting elements.

The second tip concerns action photos. If you want to catch sports action, zooming can enable you to do so without getting in the way. Do remember that the greater the zoom and the faster the motion, the more likely you are to experience camera shake, so remember to adjust your shutter speed accordingly.

The third tip concerns digital zoom. Digital zoom is not recommended in general because it simply crops away photo areas and information. Digital zoom gives a false impression of the actual size of the image and it limits your options to crop and resize later.
